Awesome Day

  • Apr. 26th, 2008 at 12:54 AM
Me
I've got a new upstairs neighbor. He's a tech who fell on hard times and was in prison for five years. He came out with nothing. I had an old laptop sitting around, but it just wasn't working. But I said to him "Let's try to fix it." I plugged it in and like a miracle, it turned right on with no problem. I handed him the laptop and said "It's yours for as long as it works." He was dumbstruck, but I have no need for it, and it's just taking up space. It's too old to sell, and it works well enough for him to use email and surf the web. It'll keep him occupied until his gets himself a job and a decent computer, and who knows, it might help him find a job. I'm not telling this story to toot my own horn. I'm telling this story because I just want to say what an awesome God I have in my life. I had just plugged the laptop in a week before to test it, and it was dead. It would not come on. It hasn't worked in months, and I was going to throw it out, but I thought I'd give it one more shot. I was going to work on it this weekend. He needed it, and suddenly it worked, and I knew what had to be done. God obviously wanted him to have this laptop.

That was great of you to do that.

Thanks, but it really wasn't me. That was God acting through me. I just know it. I can feel it deep in my gut.

awesome! And I'm sure it made all the difference in the world to him. That caring people still exist in this world we live in.

It made a huge difference to him. He told me it was the best present anybody every gave him. I thought "Wow, that's kind of sad, actually." But somehow I suspect greater things will happen for him if he just lets them happen. I get a feeling from this guy. God put him in my life for a reason, and I have to just ride along and see what happens. I have faith that everything will be good for him. (And since in Greek, the word for faith, "πιστις", is both a noun and a verb at the same time, I have an obligation to act when my heart tells me to act. Faith is something I do, not just something I have.)

It's amazing how God lives through us. That simple acts of kindness means the greatest gifts to others. That happens to me a lot sometimes too.
